Are TikTok LIVE agencies a scam? How to spot a real one

Real TikTok LIVE agencies exist and are approved by TikTok. Fake ones exist too. Here's how to tell them apart, and what to do if something feels wrong.

Updated

The short answer

No, not the real ones. TikTok runs a programme for approved agencies, which it calls LIVE Creator Networks, and pays them separately. Creators shouldn't be asked to pay. The problems come from people who pretend to be an agency to get money or access to your account.

Warning signs of a fake agency

  • They ask you for money: a joining fee, deposit, 'coaching package' or equipment you have to buy from them.
  • They want your password or login codes, or ask you to share your screen while logged in.
  • They want a share of your gift earnings paid to them directly.
  • They promise guaranteed income or a fixed amount per month.
  • They pressure you to decide today or sign a long contract you can't get out of.
  • There's no company behind them: no company details, no address, only a DM account.

How to check an agency is real

  1. The invitation comes through TikTok

A real LIVE Creator Network invites you through TikTok itself, and you accept it in the TikTok app. Not via a link to an outside website.

  2. Check who they are

A real agency shows its company name, registration number and address, and has a working website.

  3. Ask how they get paid

The honest answer: by TikTok, based on how their creators perform. Not by you.

  4. Talk to their creators

Ask creators who are already with the agency about their experience.

  5. Read before you sign

Check how you can leave, and that nothing asks you for money.

What if you've been scammed?

  • Change your TikTok password straight away and turn on two-step verification.
  • Report the account to TikTok through the app.
  • If you've paid money, contact your bank or PayPal as soon as possible.
  • Report it to Report Fraud, the UK's national fraud and cybercrime reporting service, at reportfraud.police.uk or 0300 123 2040 (in Scotland, contact Police Scotland on 101).

Frequently asked questions

Do real TikTok LIVE agencies charge creators?

They shouldn't: TikTok pays creator networks separately. Be wary of anyone who asks you for money to join. Upfluence never charges creators.

Will an agency take over my account?

No. A real agency never needs your password. You stay in full control of your account.

Can an agency guarantee how much I'll earn?

No. Earnings depend on your viewers and gifts. A promise of guaranteed income is a red flag.
